Normal people believe that it is shameful to be shameless. In the ordinary world, the phrase "shame on you" is a weapon deployed against those who go below or are outside the standard deviations of good mannerisms.

But politicians and the majority of businesspeople literally use shameful deeds as a tool to overcome the normal person. The effective usage of the shame tool is greater where the majority of the population is poor.

Most middle-class-driven societies manage to keep politicians and businesspeople in check through protests and sustained bad publicity, a luxury too elusive for poor folk who cannot boycott anything for two days. That is the gap the unholy alliance of hardball-playing politicos and businessmen need to push through agendas that are otherwise impossible in situations where wealth is better distributed.

The job of these people in the roles under discussion is to find gaps in solving their own problems first before they can think of you. So, where they can get away with things, embarrassments notwithstanding, they will walk away feeling absolutely nothing about their deeds.

There is talk of politicians discussing amongst themselves how they overcame tough situations against opposing constituents. In one such session, many boasted of how they had marshaled resources in time, money, and energy to run roughshod over opponents using hooligans and sabotage where necessary.

Many businesses try to bribe regulators because the gaps they use to get results are contrary to regulations. Many instances of collaboration amount to how to hide the shame in breaking the prohibited acts.

If you identify yourself as normal amid shameless forces, you no doubt have a big task ahead of you. One thing shall hold true, you will be the only one with sleepless nights.

So, businesspeople and politicians, in their search for paths of least resistance to success, care less about what you think of them if they can get away with it. After all, shame is not murder. And rather than come up with shaming strategies to protect yourself, work out ways to manage unwanted acts.
